Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation welcomes the release of the Agricultural Transition Plan 2021 to 2024
Chris Platt, Co-Founder of Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation said: “We welcome the launch of the Agricultural Transition Plans today by the Secretary of State for the Environment and Rural affairs. George Eustice. The emphasis is on sustainable farming practices. The plans represent a key opportunity for farm animals to be farmed in more humane and cage-free systems. A new welfare labelling scheme will help consumers make informed choices, we look forward to the public consultation on this in the near future.”
Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation is pleased to see that the scheme will reward farmers directly for environmental and animal welfare outcomes. Farmers will be subsidised to deliver ’public goods for public money’ such as a reduction in carbon emissions, clean air, clean water, and healthy soils.
We now look forward to seeing a move away from cages for egg laying hens and pig farrowing crates and the cruel practices of debeaking and tail docking.
