Today (Tuesday 12th March) Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation (CAWF) has welcomed the launch of Defra’s Consultation on fairer food labelling. This follows the Defra Call for Evidence on mandatory labelling in 2021.
Today (Tuesday 6th February) Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation (CAWF) has published a new report, ‘Labelling for Animal Welfare in the UK’ which makes the case for mandatory animal welfare labelling to be implemented in the UK.
Today (Wednesday 19th July 2023) Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation (CAWF) has responded to the news that Defra has decided they do not “consider the time is right to consult on proposals to reform labelling for animal welfare”.
The Government has recently published their response to the call for evidence on labelling for animal welfare. The findings were very encouraging and certainly a clear step in the right direction towards making choosing higher welfare meat products easier for consumers.
The Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation (CAWF) has today responded to the Government’s Food Strategy Policy Paper. This comes following Henry Dimbleby’s report published last year on the UK food system.
If implemented, labelling will provide British consumers with clear information about the meat they purchase, which in turn enables them to make informed decisions about the type of products they buy.

The committee considered and heard evidence on how to best make labelling work both for imports and domestic products and produce.
